Bathroom Remodeling in Tacoma, WA

Full bathroom renovations — tile, fixtures, vanities, showers, and complete gut remodels for Tacoma homes.

A bathroom remodel in Tacoma costs between $8,000 and $25,000 depending on the scope. A basic update (new vanity, toilet, fixtures, and paint) runs $8,000–$12,000. A full gut remodel with tile shower, new flooring, drywall, and plumbing relocation costs $15,000–$25,000. Most bathroom remodels take 2–4 weeks.

Ark Roofing & Renovations has provided bathroom remodeling in Tacoma and Pierce County for over 33 years. Bathrooms are one of the most complex renovation projects in a home — they involve plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile, drywall, and painting all in a confined space. Our crew handles every trade in-house.

What Does a Full Bathroom Remodel Include?

A full bathroom renovation typically includes demolition of existing finishes, subfloor inspection and repair, plumbing updates or relocation, new water-resistant drywall (greenboard or cement board), waterproof membrane in wet areas, tile installation in shower/tub surround and floor, new vanity and countertop, toilet replacement, fixtures, lighting, ventilation fan, and final painting.

The most critical step is waterproofing. In the Pacific Northwest, moisture is already trying to get into your walls from the outside. A bathroom that isn't properly waterproofed from the inside creates a moisture sandwich that rots framing in both directions. We use RedGard or Kerdi membrane on all shower walls and floors.

Many Tacoma homes built in the 1970s–1990s have bathrooms with failing caulk, moldy grout, sagging floors from water damage, and outdated fixtures. A remodel addresses all of these issues at once and adds significant value to your home.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Tacoma?

Basic update (fixtures, vanity, paint): $8,000–$12,000. Mid-range remodel (new tile shower, flooring, vanity, toilet): $12,000–$18,000. Full gut remodel (everything down to studs, new plumbing layout): $18,000–$25,000+. Prices vary with material choices — a porcelain tile shower costs less than natural stone. We provide line-item estimates.

Can you convert a bathtub to a walk-in shower?

Yes, and it's one of our most requested bathroom projects. Tub-to-shower conversions require plumbing modifications, waterproofing, new drain placement, and tile work. We handle the entire conversion including drywall repair around the new shower footprint. Most tub-to-shower conversions take 7–10 days.

Bathroom Remodeling Questions

A basic update takes 1–2 weeks. A full gut remodel takes 3–4 weeks. The biggest time factors are tile installation (grout needs cure time), plumbing modifications, and custom vanity or fixture lead times. We provide a detailed timeline before starting.

Not during an active gut remodel — the toilet, sink, and shower are disconnected. If you have a second bathroom, you'll use that during construction. If it's your only bathroom, we can stage the work to minimize downtime, but there will be 3–5 days without access to the shower and 1–2 days without a working toilet.

Yes. Bathroom remodels that involve plumbing relocation or electrical changes require permits in Pierce County. We pull permits, schedule inspections, and ensure all work meets code. Basic fixture swaps (same-location toilet or vanity) typically don't require permits.
